9/11
Our team was underway to participate in a finance event on the 23rd floor of the WTC in New York when the planes flew in.
We were late and still underway to make it before the opening…. I will never forget the noise, dust and ashes……

Finance Forum St. Gerlach
In 2002 I was asked to setup the Finance Forum Benelux on behalf of BT (British Telecom). Our team selected the chateau St. Gerlach to host 25 CIO’s from the larger Financial Service Institutes in the Benelux for a 3 day event. Key note speaker was Mr. B. Verwaaijen, CEO BT, as well as several Industry experts, discussing the future of Banking in light of eCommerce.

Promoting Identrus
After delivering the platform for Identrus LLC (Identity & Trust) – validating and establishing a trusted and secured… connection between sellers and buyers – , when working at Sun Microsystems, initiated together with our customer, The ABN AMRO Bank, we promoted the go-live by participating in the annual Regatta on Palma Mallorca where we enjoyed dinner with the king of Spain, Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas and many others…. The organization Identrus is based in New York.

Tombs of kings in Portugal
In 2003 I was approached by the archeologist Joost Snaaijer (1942 – 2007) to assist in setting up an expedition to… the tombs of kings, as he called it, in the Evora area of Portugal. During one of his earlier site visits he had found several graves which he believed to be of former kings. He based this upon the findings of several decorations used on so called speaking rods used by kings in this area. These decorations were made from an ore which, especially in those days could only be found in North America. Remarkable to say the least looking at the origin date of the rods and the transportation possibilities in those days. We are talking about the year 1150 here….. One of my roles was to allocate and sign up necessary sponsor and we approached successfully: – Corus – KLM – Rijks Universiteit Groningen – National Geographic – Discovery Channel – Privat Investors with an interest in Archeology The whole expedition was going to be captures on film and photo and was scheduled to start in October 2003. Sadly Joost got ill and passed away….

The story of Champagne
In 2004 I was approached by Ms. C. Honig, descendant of the founder of the retail Brand “HONIG” and fascinated by… Champagne to help her position her “Theater play -The story of Champagne” to the board of LVMH in Paris. The goal was to have this show in Cathedrals around the world funded by LVMH to promote Champagne. She had managed to be invited by sending along a doll she had made to differentiate her application for a meeting. My role was to build and present together the idea and business case at the HQ in Paris. We achieved this and met with the Global Marketing Director Ms. S. Belli.
2005 - 2015
A Blue World Company
In 2005 I founded A Blue World Company developing environmental friendly products such as SmellControl, avoiding…
bad smell (H2S) in sewers, BM500 improving water quality, TC5 improving bacterial life in the soil (Golfcourses, Meadows), AnyMagic keeping flies away and “Graszodendouche”, developed together with POKON. We decided to enter into the adventure of first developing everything ourselves (Market development, product positioning, bottling etc. and allocating launching customers and partners in many countries such as Belgium, UK, Portugal, Turkey and Brazil. We outsourced development and production.) We distributed to many countries via Global Partners and made it on National TV during the European Soccer championships in 2009 since our product was used on all the soccer fields. (Greenkeepers were complaining they had to take care of the grass twice as much as normal since it grew very rapidly…..). The products won several awards.

Catch the Wind
Catch the Wind is a project from the Frisian Yacht Club (FYC) which enables sailing boats to sail in a unique area of the Waddenzee, Friesland, The Netherlands. Unique because for the true sailing fanatic one will find here winds, currents, waves, shallows and tides which are very challenging for sailors. For over a hundred years nobody has been able to sail away from this particular part of the shore . The idea and initiative started some 10 years ago originated by Mr. Guus Westra, Chairman of the FYC and passioned sailor. Over the past 5 years we have been developing the project and the construction to make it possible for sailing boats to set sail from the shore, a very specific spot we found complying to the conditions required to make this happen. This together with the governments which bought into the project after having lobbied for many years meeting 42 organizations. The construction was finally tested in October 2017 and proved to work. We aimed to be operational in 2020, however, due to covid this is postponed.

Winner KvK Challenge 2019
In 2019 our team, consisting of Professor Bart van Schie (Founder of Safecassava), Rabobank, a large Bio Technology Company and SAS Institute won the KvK Challenge 2019. Professor van Schie, my neighbour at that time, found and tested an enzyme which can break down the cyanide without too many costs, efficiently and rapidly. Cassava is the 2nd biggest crop in tropical areas. Although it serves as the most important calories provider for 1 billion mostly poor people, it is processed in a craftsman’s type manner. Besides starch, cassava contains glucose/cyanide compounds, a plant toxic, which might be harmful to human health. The unpredictable and often high levels of these compounds in cassava-derived products make this starch source currently unattractive to global food and beverage producers. Breakdown of the compounds can be done enzymatically by Linamarase. The challenge is to produce this enzyme industrially – with the help of biotechnology – to make it widely available, in a way that even the bitter and more endurable types of cassava can be processed by the Food & Beverage industry. We searched and found an innovative and capable player in the field of biotechnology regarding the production of the enzyme Linamarase on an industrial and cost-effective base. Moreover, we looked for partners to leverage the whole value chain, from enhancing production in the field to processing yield in an efficient and safe way. SAS supports in food safety analytics and related services as well as in the visualization of production, distribution, and processing capacities by geo-mapping. 1st phase: 2nd phase:
